Best Truly Free AI Writing Tools for WordPress (That Actually Let You Create Real Content)

Let’s be honest for a moment — most “free” AI writing tools are not really free. You sign up, generate a few hundred words, and suddenly they throw a paywall at you. As someone who works with solo founders and creators almost every day, I know how frustrating that experience can be. When you’re just getting started, every rupee matters, and you want a tool that actually helps you create real content without forcing an upgrade.

That’s exactly why this guide exists. I’m not listing random AI tools or every plugin under the sun. Instead, I’m sharing AI writing tools I’ve personally tested and would genuinely recommend to any beginner. More importantly, these tools offer enough value in their free plans to help you create full blog posts, landing pages, descriptions, and more — especially if you use WordPress.

Let’s dive in.

1. ChatGPT (Completely Free at chat.openai.com)

ChatGPT is the tool I use daily — including for this blog. The free version gives you access to GPT-3.5, which is still powerful enough to create blog posts, rewrite text, summarize ideas, and brainstorm new topics.

You don’t need a plugin or integration. Simply open chat.openai.com, start a chat, and type exactly what you want:

“Write a friendly blog post explaining how AI helps founders write better content.”

Then refine it. Break it into sections. Improve the tone. Ask for rewrites. ChatGPT becomes a smart writing partner instead of a one-click generator.

Pro Tip: If you’re working on a tight budget, the free tier is more than enough. When you start creating content at scale, consider upgrading to GPT-4 — but it’s not required for beginners.

2. Notion AI (Free Trial + Built-In Assistance)

If you already use Notion for planning, task management, or organizing ideas, Notion AI becomes extremely useful. It’s built right into the editor and can help you:

  • Expand bullet points into paragraphs
  • Rewrite sentences
  • Fix grammar
  • Summarize existing content
  • Create outlines for new blogs

The trial gives you free generations, and you can easily draft multiple sections before transferring your content into WordPress.

3. Writesonic (Free Plan With 10,000 Words/Month on GPT-3.5)

Among all the “freemium” tools, Writesonic stands out because its free plan is actually usable. With the GPT-3.5 model, you get up to 10,000 words per month — enough to write:

  • Four to five full blog posts
  • A home page or about section
  • Product descriptions
  • Service pages
  • Ad copy and social posts

It also includes a WordPress export feature and long-form templates. As long as you stay on GPT-3.5, you can use it without paying.

4. ContentBot AI (Free Daily Credits)

ContentBot gives you a few free generations each day. While it isn’t designed for long-form content in the free tier, it’s great for:

  • Introductions
  • Bullet points
  • Summaries
  • Social media ideas
  • Paragraph expansions

You can also use their WordPress plugin, although I prefer generating content on the web app and then refining inside WordPress. For founders creating one or two blogs weekly, this free plan is more than enough.

5. HoppyCopy (Generous Free Trial for Email + Blog Content)

HoppyCopy is popular among marketers because it specializes in email newsletters and social content. However, it also works well for blogs, landing pages, and brand-toned content. The free trial is generous enough to write your first few posts without paying.

Once the trial ends, you’ll need to upgrade, but until then you can easily create three to four solid blogs.

Why I Still Prefer ChatGPT Most of the Time

All these tools are useful in their own way, but I keep returning to ChatGPT for one simple reason — it’s flexible. It doesn’t limit you with strict credit caps, and it adapts to your tone, your brand voice, and your writing style much better than most alternatives.

Even when I use plugins inside WordPress, I still draft most of my content in ChatGPT first. After that, I paste it into WordPress, refine it, format it, and hit publish.
